The movement is due to the contraction of skeletal muscles which interact with the bones.

Muscle cells contract in response to stimulation that is carried by nerve impulses.
Muscles are attached to bones by tendons near a joint.

Tendons are made up of very strong inelastic collagen tissue. These non-stretch collagen fibers have a glistening silver-gray strands between muscle and bone.

The function: to ensure that the force produced by the contraction of the muscles is transmitted to the part of the body to be moved.

A joint is formed by 2 or more bones coming together – held together at a joint by ligaments.

Ligaments are tough, tough and elastic connective tissue that allows movement of the bones of a joint to a certain limit. They play an important role in preventing dislocation.
