Definition: A sprain is a stretching or tearing of one or more ligaments in a joint. The ankle is the joint most vulnerable to sprain.

Mild Sprain

  • Pain in the joint, movements are possible 
  • Swelling of the joint in the following hours or the next day 
  • The absence of'bruise (blue)

Moderate Sprain

  • Pain in the joint, movements are limited, but possible 
  • Joint swelling in less than 4 hours 
  • A bruise

Severe Sprain

  • The perception of a cracking or tearing sensation 
  • Pain that is most often intense, with difficulty moving the joint 
  • It is often impossible to put your weight on the injured limb 
  • Rapid inflation, in minutes 
  • A bruise
