Definition: The hamstrings are part of the thigh muscles. They attach to the tibia, fibula and hip which serve for knee extension and hip flexion. THE breakdown is a stage of hamstring injury severity.

Stage 1: "elongation" corresponds to the separation of the fibers and the membrane. There is a small effusion in the manner of a deep blister.

Stage 2: "breakdown", the muscle envelope is distended

Stage 3: "tear" is characterized by a cut in the membrane of the muscle. This structure being crossed by vessels, this lesion is associated with bleeding. This is what makes it serious because the deep hematoma risks forming a rigid and fragile fibrous crust, a source of recurrence.

Stage 4: “rupture”, the tear goes around the envelope. The two muscle portions are separated and retract! Healing takes place in the shortened position
