Definition: Epicondylitis (tennis elbow) is an inflammation of certain elbow tendons, responsible for elbow pain. This condition appears following repeated and/or intensive arm and hand gestures. It is part of the musculoskeletal disorders of the upper limb. The first people affected are professionals carrying out repetitive tasks, people who often do DIY and tennis players.

Symptoms of the disease (source)

The professions concerned are those which require repeated or forceful movements of the fingers, wrist and forearm. Epicondylitis can be caused by excessive stress at a specific moment or by low stress over a long period of time.

Certain movements favor the appearance of epicondylitis, in particular:

  • Simultaneous forearm rotation and wrist flexion movements
  • Vigorous gripping of an object combined with an inward or outward rotation of the forearm
  • Jerky throwing movements
  • Hand movements to hit objects
