Running: Three reasons to consult acupuncture

Whether you are an amateur runner, a marathon runner or a triathlete, acupuncture can help you recover from your injuries and increase your performance. Almost 80% of runners are injured each year and therefore must stop or suspend their training. A large number of high-performance athletes also use acupuncture on a regular basis. Here are three good reasons.

Injury Prevention :

Regular acupuncture treatments will help the organs and the musculoskeletal system to function optimally by correcting imbalances before they worsen and result in injuries. When a muscle is treated in acupuncture, it will be more flexible and less strained, creating less stress on joints. This allows a better potential for contraction and muscle power, while decreasing the risk of muscle sprain or ligament tear. In addition, acupuncture will promote better recovery after training by helping to relax muscle tension and accelerating tissue regeneration.

Injury treatment:

Acupuncture can bring great relief by decreasing pain and inflammation. The goal of the treatment is to increase local circulation to promote tissue regeneration, restore the natural mobility of muscle fibers and relieve tension by disabling trigger points. In addition, symptoms of pain and fatigue may occur elsewhere than the cause of the problem. With its comprehensive approach, the acupuncturist will be able to deal with the problem at the source.

The main conditions dealt with by runners are :

  • Cramps and muscle tensions (calves, quadriceps, hamstrings, ilio-tibial strips)
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Achilles tendon tendinitis
  • Sprain of the ankle
  • Tibial periostitis (shin splints)
  • Muscle tears

The increase in performance :

A good performance requires a body in balance. Considering the individual as a whole, acupuncture treatments practiced on a regular basis, will rebalance the metabolism and maintain a good level of energy, promoting efficient and effective training. Whichever your level, to prevent or help heal your sports injuries, make acupuncture an integral part of your workout.
