Blade-type massage tools, often called IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) instruments or scrapers, have become essential in manual therapy. When used correctly, these instruments, now made of stainless steel, allow for precise assessment and treatment of soft tissues, offering significant benefits for pain reduction and improved function.

What are IASTM and the “Blades”? ?
IASTM is an instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique derived from the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Gua Sha). The "blade" tools are instruments designed with varying curvatures and edges that conform to the body's contours. They allow the therapist to apply targeted pressure to:
1. Identify fascial adhesions and restrictions: The edge of the tool acts as a tactile amplifier, allowing the practitioner to “feel” irregularities (knots, scar tissue, fibrosis) beneath the skin.
2. Breaking up scar tissue and fascial adhesions: The controlled friction action stimulates microcirculation and initiates a localized inflammatory process, promoting collagen remodeling and the healing.
3. Improve blood and lymphatic flow: Mechanical stimulation helps to release tension and optimize nutrient exchange and the elimination of metabolic waste.

Key Benefits of Massage with Blades
Integrating blade tools into a therapeutic or recovery routine offers several proven advantages:
● Pain reduction: IASTM can rapidly decrease the perception of pain by stimulating mechanoreceptors and releasing myofascial tension.
● Increased range of motion (ROM): By breaking down adhesions and restoring fascial mobility, the blades allow for better joint and muscle flexibility.
● Treatment of tendinopathies: Often used for conditions such as tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) or plantar fasciitis, IASTM promotes tendon remodeling.
● Accelerated recovery: Improved circulation helps with the management of DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) and post-exercise recovery.
Precautions and Contraindications
Although generally safe, the use of blades requires precautions. The treatment may leave red marks or slight bruising (petechiae), which are normal responses due to the rupture of microvessels, but excessive pressure should be avoided.

Absolute contraindications :
● Open wounds, infections or rashes on the area of You also have a right to erase your personal data.
● Malignant tumors active.
● Thrombophlebitis or DVT (venous thrombosis) deep).
● Using anticoagulants without medical advice (risk of bruising) important).
● Pregnancy (some zones).
The use of blade massage tools is a powerful technique which, when practiced by a qualified professional, can transform the approach to treating musculoskeletal dysfunctions.
